Born in D.C. to parents hailing from Detroit, Cecilia Shanae Knox is a proud product of her Motor City roots. As a creative, she’s always been involved in the arts -- from dancing and modeling, to painting and sculpting, and performing in school plays. But styling hair has always been her first love.

After earning her cosmetology license from Eastland Career Center in 2005, Cecilia went on to graduate from Groveport High School and later attended Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where she graduated in 2009 with a degree in business marketing.

Because of her God-given talents and radiant personality, Cecilia quickly gained a reputation as the resident stylists on campus, which helped her pay her way through college.

During this time, she also founded the first Self-Health and Beauty Alliance (SHABA) at Wright State, which aimed to increase the awareness of self-care and self-esteem among young adults from the inside out. Nearly a decade later, the group is still going strong! While at Wright State, Cecilia also organized a winning team to earn scholarships during annual hair show competitions. Indeed, community service and philanthropy has always been a part of her DNA.

After graduating from college, Cecilia worked as a store manager for Kroger Co. in the Greater Cincinnati area, but knew this wasn’t her calling. With support from her family and friends, she left her corporate job to pursue a career in cosmetology.

By September 2014, Cecilia had stepped out on faith and jumped in full time behind the chair. Now celebrating seven years as an entrepreneur, all the decisions and hard work have landed her in her own space at Phenix Salon Suites in Cincinnati. But, all this would not be possible without her loyal and growing clientele whom she considers her extend family.

Cecilia will continue expand her business, while also teaching the next generation of hair stylists her secrets to success. Additionally, she has launched  a foundation for adopted and foster care families who need more help and guidance with their children’s hair-care regimen...called CROWN CLUB: Teachable Moments.  As a foster parent herself, Cecilia understands first hand the unique needs of these families and is passionate about giving back to the community. She lives in Cincinnati with her husband of 13 years, Mark Knox, their 6 year old son Marquez and 2 year olds twins Kyla & Khalil! Life is crazy...one day at a time!
